Without naming names, they announced what they knew at the time: Three officers had died and others were wounded. Some of the dead, Brown said, were shot in the back.
They tried to provide answers. But many of the early details were wrong.
Brown told reporters that “at least two snipers from elevated positions” triangulated to shoot police officers “ambush style” as the protest ended. He indicated that one was holed up in a parking garage.
“We’ve got one of these suspects cornered, and I need to get back to take care of the business of protecting this city,” Brown said.
